Life Science Challenge
Category : News
On 21st June 2017, a team of 4 year 10 boys from Ysgol Clywedog travelled to Cardiff to participate in the 2017 Life Science Challenge organised by Cardiif University. This is a national; quiz designed to stretch more able pupils, covering all aspects of science, from forensics to astronomy. The Ysgol, Clywedog team were the only team in North Wales to qualify for the quarter finals.
They were entered into a ‘head to head’ competition against 3 times winners, Whitchurch High School from Cardiff. The boys did incredibly well, but sadly, Whitchurch School won by only 1.5 points!!!! The Head of Science there said it was the closest competition they have had. Mrs Flanagan, Head of Science at Ysgol Clywedog said ‘I am so proud of our team. They were gracious in defeat and shook hands with the other team. They showed extensive scientific knowledge and really enjoyed the quiz.’ Next year, it is hoped that these boys will train up the next team from Ysgol Clywedog and we will rise to the challenge again.
