Dear Parent/Guardian

Re: Welcome & Induction Arrangements

I would like to begin by thanking you for choosing Ysgol Clywedog as your Secondary School, and most importantly for placing in us your trust for the education of your child. I am aware that you have many choices available to you and I consider it a privilege that you have chosen our school.

Under normal circumstances, a full programme of induction events and activities would be in place for your son/daughter throughout this term to ensure their smooth transition to Ysgol Clywedog, however we face exceptional times and cannot be sure that we will reopen prior to September.

In the event that we do re-open in September, I would like to reassure you that we will be organising a range of extended activities during the first week that will serve to help your child familiarise themselves with the site, get to know their classmates, and their teachers. They will achieve this through a range of exciting and enjoyable activities that will certainly give them a flying start to their time at Ysgol Clywedog.

If the school does re-open before September, then we will be in contact with you directly to invite you to a revised schedule of events.

There will also be enhanced transition arrangements for our more vulnerable students and those with Additional Learning Needs, and these will be arranged by our coordinator, Mrs Gill Williams, directly with you and your primary school. If you have any concerns in this regard, please email Mrs Williams directly: Gill.Williams@clywedog.org

In the meantime, we kindly ask that you provide us with essential information regarding you and your child, and ask that the on-line forms are completed and submitted by Friday 22nd May, 2020. The link is in the letter that has been sent to you. If you have not received a letter please email mailbox@clywedog.wrexham.sch.uk

The reason we request such a wide range of information is to ensure the smooth transition of your child and includes the following aspects:

  • General admission form
  • National Identity.
  • Personal Information about your child that helps us to quickly get to know them
  • Details of any current or historical Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and / or any additional support that your child may have received from external agencies
  • Parental consent for children to appear in photographs or in videos
  • Parental consent for children to participate in routine off-site activities and visits
  • Parental interest in becoming a Governor of the school.

Please be reassured that the data requested will be stored on the School Management Information System and will be used for the purposes outlined in our fair processing notice. Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy and security of personal data held by the school. Individuals have certain rights of access to personal information held on them. These are outlined our school website: http://clywedog.org/privacy-notices/

For your information I have also attached details about the school uniform which is available at Ram Leisure, currently online at https://ourschoolwear.co.uk/collections/ysgol-clywedog

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor within the school’s governing body. Joining the Local Governing Body as a Parent Governor offers you the opportunity to make a real contribution to the life and work of Ysgol Clywedog.  Governors play a key role in the strategic leadership of the school and raising of standards. Being a Governor can be very rewarding and will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a team and gain new skills. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience as full training and support is available.    If you would like further information about the role of a Governor, please contact the school through mailbox@clywedog.wrexham.sch.uk

In the meantime, I look forward to welcoming you and your child soon and hope you remain well and safe during these difficult times.

Yours sincerely

Matt Vickery                           Gareth Edwards
